The San Diego Sheriff’s Department has suspended its search for the third person aboard a plane that crashed into the ocean Tuesday off San Onofre State Beach.
A helicopter searched the shoreline Friday morning for signs of Edward Muhammad, 25, of Inglewood, but found nothing. The Sheriff’s Department search and rescue dive team now is helping collect evidence and debris, said Sheriff’s Lt. Guy Chambers.
Muhammad boarded a Cessna 172N with his wife, Celina, 29, and was traveling back to Los Angeles County.
The pilot, Jamul Muhammad, 26, reported engine trouble and the plane crashed into the waters about half a mile from shore. He is not related to the couple.
Celina Muhammad was killed in the crash. Jamul Muhammad was rescued and was recovering from severe hypothermia at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. He was reported in fair condition Saturday.
