IT’LL BE POST-CHRISTMAS DEPRESSION FOR SOMEONE

How you can tell this isn’t your Super Bowl season:

When you have to drive 96 yards, in the final minutes, to beat the Seattle Seahawks, by three points, at home, to even your record at 7-7, avoid playoff elimination for one more week and send the local papers into a lather with “MIRACLE COMEBACK” headlines, with even the New York Times diagraming the winning drive on the front of its sports section.

All this happened to the New York Giants last weekend, with Kerry Collins sputtering down the field on a drive that will never be mistaken for one of John Elway’s, for a 27-24 victory over the Seahawks.

“Kerry was like Santa on his sleigh,” said Giant linebacker Michael Barrow, who was obviously overheating and not seeing clearly. Santa wasn’t nearly intercepted three times on the way from the North Pole to Manhattan.

But because a few Giants managed to hang onto the ball better than a few Seahawks, New York remains mathematically alive for the playoffs heading into today’s game with the NFC East-leading Eagles.

Of note: The Eagles could manage but a field goal last week and lost to San Francisco, 13-3.

Of note: The Eagles are 3-4 at home this season.

Of note: The Eagles are 1-9 in their last 10 games against the Giants, the lone victory coming in early October at New York, 10-9.

One way or another, nervous breakdown guaranteed.

The line: Philadelphia by 5.
