Share

What do you think of when you hear IUPUI?

If you answered eye chart, you’re not alone.

Actually IUPUI--known in its long form as Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis--made its first true mark on the NCAA Division I basketball scene Saturday with a stunning 98-92 victory over Georgia Tech at Atlanta.

The team is playing its fourth season in Division I after compiling a 24-53 record in its first three. Its biggest victory before Saturday was a 72-70 stunner against Indiana State on Dec. 20, 2000.

But there’s more to IUPUI than basketball. Here are some points of interest you probably didn’t know:

* The school boasts the nation’s largest collection of “sport-related art.”

* “The Liberal Arts Cookbook,” a compilation of recipes from 50 IUPUI professors, administrators and staff, has directions on how to make such delights as Buzzard’s Breath Chili and Corncob Jelly.

* Students can earn a bachelor of science degree in tourism, conventions and event management.

* The IUPUI Natatorium has been proclaimed “one of the fastest pools in the world.”

* The best lines from the school’s fight song:

We’re raising by the power of two

Both Indiana and Purdue

Makes you want to run through a wall, doesn’t it?
