* Third baseman Kevin Howard of Miami hit a game-winning, two-run home run during the third inning of the Hurricanes’ 4-2 victory Saturday over Florida Atlantic at Miami.
It was his first home run of the season.
Howard, from Westlake High, batted .413 with four home runs and 52 runs batted in last season and was selected Baseball America magazine’s freshman of the year.
* Third baseman Chris Martinez singled in the 10th inning to give Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (4-1) a 9-8 victory over Utah on Sunday at San Luis Obispo.
Martinez, a senior from Chaminade High, went four for five with three RBIs.
Martinez started the season six for 10.
