Van Carrying Team Overturns; Eight Hurt

One of two vans carrying the Lindenwood University men’s team overturned Thursday outside of Montgomery City, Mo., on the way to a game, injuring eight.

A player and an assistant coach appeared to be the most seriously injured and were taken by helicopter to a St. Louis hospital, according to another assistant coach, John Hicklin.

Hicklin said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening and the two people transferred by helicopter may have suffered broken ribs. Five other players and a trainer were taken to hospitals in St. Louis and Columbia, Mo.

Lindenwood, an NAIA school located in St. Charles, Mo., was to play Missouri Valley in Marshall.

West Virginia forward Chris Moss, who left the team after spitting on a cheerleader during a loss at Notre Dame last month, returned to the team Wednesday night and played 13 minutes in the Mountaineers’ 63-46 loss at Pittsburgh. Coach Gale Catlett would not discuss Moss’ return except to say that it was his decision to play the 6-foot-8 junior. Moss had two points and three rebounds.
