Concert at Ventura Church

Ojai Valley Adventist Sermon Series

* Pastor David Smith of Ojai Valley Adventist Church will continue a sermon series today, “Your Most Radical Decision.” The fifth installment, titled “God’s Part and Our Part,” explores the theology of salvation.

Holocaust Survivor to Speak

* Temple Beth Torah in Ventura will hold a lox and bagel Sunday brunch from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with guest speaker Thomas Toivi Blatt, author-lecturer and Holocaust survivor. Blatt’s story was retold in the award-winning Alan Arkin movie “Escape From Sobibor.” He will discuss his books and show video clips from the film. The cost is $10.

First Presbyterian Services

Camarillo Church Hosts Health Fair

* St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camarillo will host a health fair on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon. The event, sponsored in conjunction with St. John’s Regional Medical Center and Pleasant Valley Hospital, will offer blood pressure, vision, dental, podiatric, cholesterol and other screenings. The fair will be held at the preschool next to the chapel. There is a fee for some screenings.

Author to Discuss Death, Divorce

* Pleasant Valley Church of Religious Science Center for Positive Living will host a discussion by author-lecturer Father Leo Booth on Sunday. During the 10 a.m. service he will discuss divorce, death and violence from a spiritual perspective.

Also, the center will continue its Tuesday workshop on using the language of Jesus (Aramaic) in everyday living. The Rev. Larry Vogel will lead the workshop installments using translations by scholars who speak Aramaic. The goal of the program is to better understand “what Jesus really taught us.” The installments are held Tuesdays through March 27 from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $10 per session.

Unitarian Universalist Services

* The Rev. Betty Stapleford will lead an intergenerational service titled “Give a Little Love Away” at 10 a.m. Sunday at Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Women to Lead Methodist Services

* Simi Valley United Methodist Church will celebrate United Methodist Women Sunday this week at its 8 and 10 a.m. worship services. Women of the congregation will lead both services. Classes Examine Jewish Mysticism

* The Conejo Jewish Academy on Thursday will begin a three-part course on the basics of Jewish mysticism taught by Rabbi Yisroel Levine. Titled “Going Kabbalistic,” the 8 p.m. sessions will follow on Feb. 22 and March 1. Cost is $18.
