Selanne Tired of Trade Talk

Share

Right wing Teemu Selanne has had enough already of the trade rumors and speculation.

“I don’t even want to think about it anymore,” he said. “I’m going to work hard and try to help this team win until somebody tells me to take a hike.”

Despite numerous stories to the contrary, it doesn’t appear that Pierre Gauthier, team president and general manager, plans to deal Selanne. Gauthier has returned from a lengthy scouting trip to be with his wife, who is expecting the couple’s third child about March 1. The NHL trade deadline is March 13.

Selanne certainly hasn’t played as if the pressure of an impending trade has been troubling him. His second-period goal in Wednesday’s 3-3 tie against the Edmonton Oilers was his fifth in as many games.

Selanne and left wing Paul Kariya each have five-game point streaks. Selanne has five goals and seven points and Kariya three and seven.

“We’ve had a great feeling the last few games,” said Selanne, who leads the Ducks with 22 goals and 48 points. “I’ve had a lot of the same feelings lately as I’ve had in the past. It’s a good sign.”

Center German Titov is expected to be sidelined tonight against the Dallas Stars, sitting out a second consecutive game because of a shoulder injury. He could be fit to play Monday against the Calgary Flames, Coach Guy Charron said.

“He skated all right,” Charron said of Titov, who participated in the team’s light workout Thursday. “He’s back on the ice, but it’s not his legs, it’s his shoulder that’s hurt.”
