UC Irvine 93, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 89--The Anteaters rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit and took sole possession of first place in the Big West with a victory in front of an announced crowd of 3,218 at the Bren Center.

Guard Jerry Green scored a career-high 35 points, including 14 of the team’s first 16 points to open the second half. It was all part of an 18-2 Anteater run that closed the gap to 55-52 with 16:18 left.

Green missed a three-pointer that would have tied the score about a minute later, but he nailed seven of eight free throws and scored on a superb spin move in the final 8:47 to guide the Anteaters. He made 13 of 14 free throws and shot 10 of 19 from the field.

Senior forward Ben Jones scored 15 points, freshman center Adam Parada had 12 before fouling out, senior forward Sean Jackson, who sustained a badly bruised left eye, scored 11 and freshman forward Stanislav Zuzak, who also fouled out, added 10 points for Irvine (20-3, 12-1).

San Luis Obispo (9-14, 3-9) held the lead for the last time, 86-85, with 1:27 to go after a pair of free throws from senior center Chris Bjorklund. But moment’s later Green’s driving finger-tip spin-shot gave Irvine the lead for good, 87-86.
