Durrell Price hasn’t been a baseball player long, but he already achieved a feat few accomplish.
Price, former Sylmar High and UCLA running back who is starting a baseball career at Oxnard College, hit for the cycle last week against Golden West.
After he hit a single, a triple, a 420-foot home run and a double, Price was intentionally walked.
“Every ball he hit couldn’t be hit harder,” Oxnard Coach Jon Larsen said. “He can rake fastballs.”
Price, who decided to try baseball after he was cut in NFL camp by the San Diego Chargers, started the season eight for 18 (.444) with seven RBIs. Five of his hits have been for extra-bases, including two triples. He is being used as a designated hitter.
“He wasn’t really aware how hard it is to hit for the cycle,” Larsen said.
