Jim Colbert matched the course record with a 10-under-par 62 on Saturday for a share of the second-round lead in the Mexico Senior Classic.

Colbert, who won the last of his 19 Senior PGA Tour titles in 1998, tied the mark set by Hubert Green last year in the final round of his five-stroke victory.

“I didn’t make any eights today,” Colbert said, referring to his triple bogey Friday on the par-five ninth hole. “I hit every green and every fairway. When you do that, the game seems easier.”

Colbert, who tied for second last year, made a 40-foot eagle putt on the par-five 10th hole and had eight birdies.

“I thought I holed my wedge at 18,” said the 59-year-old Colbert, who has twice shot 61 on the senior tour. “It spun back to eight feet, and I missed another birdie chance.”

Mike McCullough shot a 68 and Bob Eastwood a 71 to match Colbert at eight-under 136 on the scenic Las Vista Country Club Course.

“I’ve played a lot of rounds of golf with both Jim and Mike,” Eastwood said. “You never know what could happen tomorrow. You might have someone have a round like Jim had today and go by everybody.”

Walter Hall was a stroke back after a 69, and Dick Lotz (70), Bobby Walzel (72) and Ed Dougherty (73) were two back at 138.
