Ballet School to Hold Auditions
Auditions will be held Sunday for Los Angeles-area youths interested in attending a five-week summer course at New York’s School of American Ballet. Applicants must be intermediate or advanced dance students.
The auditions will be held at the Westside School of Ballet, 1711 Stewart St., Santa Monica.
Audition times are 1 to 2:30 p.m. for children 12 and 13 (all applicants must be 12 by July 1), 2:30 to 4 p.m. for those 14 and 15 and 4 to 5 p.m. for those 16 through 18.
A $15 application fee is required, and prospective students must register one hour before audition time.
About 2,000 students nationwide are expected to vie for the 200 available spots.
Prominent dancers who got their starts through the school’s national auditions include Fernando Bujones, Suzanne Farrell, Darci Kistler, Kyra Nichols, Kay Mazzo, Jack Soto and Wendy Whelan.
