Sheriff’s homicide detectives are searching for a 22-year-old East Valinda man in connection with Monday’s fatal shooting of a cab driver.
Sgt. Vanette Ford said Daniel Torres Sandoval is a suspect in the slaying of David Solorzano, 39, a driver for Covina-based AAA Yellow Taxi Co. who died Monday afternoon in East Valinda. The motive for Solorzano’s death was robbery, Ford said.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Sandoval, and the district attorney’s office has charged him with murder and robbery, Ford said.
The taxi’s engine was still running when deputies found Solorzano of La Puente shot in the upper body and slumped over the steering wheel, Ford said. He died at the scene.
Neighbors on the suburban street told police they heard several gunshots at about 3:30 p.m. and saw a man fleeing.
Sandoval is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 200 pounds, with a shaved head and brown eyes.
He has tattoos, including “Brown Pride” on the backs of both arms, “Loving Miranda” on his right arm, “In Loving Memory of Robert” on his chest and praying hands on his back, Ford said.
Anyone with information on Sandoval can call (323) 890-5500.
