A 48-year-old man was killed at a desert intersection Thursday night after a pickup truck ran a stop sign and plowed into his sports car, authorities said.

Lancaster resident Michael Lacoste was driving a Ford Mustang north on 30th Street East about 6:50 p.m. As he crossed Avenue H, driver Natasha Pivovaroff, 30, of Lancaster, allegedly failed to heed a stop sign as she was heading east on Avenue H, and hit the Mustang with her pickup, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Campbell.

Lacoste was pronounced dead at the scene. Pivovaroff was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with minor chest and abdominal injuries.

She remains there in serious but stable condition, hospital officials said.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident, Campbell said. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and wearing seat belts, he said.

No citations have been issued, but the accident remains under investigation by Lancaster sheriff’s deputies.
