More Funds Urged for Graffiti Removal
Faced with a major increase in graffiti, Los Angeles officials Monday proposed to double the budget for removal and step up coordination with state and county agencies to attack the problem.
Because the amount of graffiti removed by the city’s Operation Clean Sweep program has increased 68% since 1998, the city should double the budget to $5.1 million to have twice as many cleaning crews, said Delphia Jones, who heads the program, in testimony to the City Council’s Government Efficiency Committee.
Councilwoman Laura Chick of Tarzana, who chairs the committee, recommended that the council take up the budget request.
