From Times Staff Reports

A Long Beach man was found stabbed to death Thursday and police followed a trail of blood to a woman he apparently assaulted weeks before, authorities said.

Paris Newton, 42, was arrested in a courtyard near her son’s home in the 1000 block of Chestnut Avenue, Officer David Marander said. Two blocks away, around 6 a.m., police had found Jerome Solomon dead and in a sitting position on the steps of a house, Marander said.

Detectives believe there was no relationship between the two, other than Solomon assaulting Newton about two weeks ago, Marander said. It’s possible Newton stabbed Solomon in retaliation, but it’s unclear what Solomon was doing near Newton’s son’s home when he was stabbed, Marander said.

Newton was held on $1 million bail, Marander said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Dets. Stephen Jones or Mark McGuire at (562) 570-7244.
