Police detectives were investigating an apparent car bomb used Thursday morning in an explosion that left a Torrance woman and her adult son rattled but uninjured, authorities said.

The unidentified woman and her son were pulling out of their driveway in the 2700 block of Carson Street around 7:20 a.m. when they heard a sound underneath their car, followed by an explosion and a fire, said Torrance police Lt. Kevin Kreager.
