4.0 Temblor Is the Latest in Quake Swarm
More than 1,000 earthquakes have struck in the last week near Coso Junction, along U.S. 395 in Inyo County, the U.S. Geological Survey reported Friday.
There was another magnitude 4.0 quake at 5:53 a.m. Friday, centered like most of the others four miles southeast of Coso Junction, the fifth moderate quake in the series that began last week. There have also been 26 quakes between magnitude 3.0 and 4.0.
Quake swarms have been common in the volcanic Coso area, about 140 miles north of Los Angeles, for the past decade.
