Irvine Swimmers Win Freestyle, Backstroke

Gabrielle Rose and Diana MacManus of the Irvine Novaquatics swim club won events Friday on the second day of the Janet Evans Invitational at USC.
Rose, 23, won the women’s 100-meter freestyle in 56.40 seconds. Jennifer Parmenter of the Trojan Swim Club was second in 57.16 and Courtney Cashion of the Novaquatics was third in 57.20.
MacManus, who will be a sophomore at Irvine High in the fall, won the 200 backstroke in 2:13.47 and Novaquatics’ teammate Jessica Hayes was second in 2:14.22.
