A 2-month-old boy died Monday after his father left him in a car for two hours in the afternoon heat.
The car’s windows were up and the temperature was in the mid-80s, according to San Jose police, who have not decided whether to arrest the father. Police were not releasing any identities.
The father called 911 about 3:30 p.m. when he realized he had forgotten the boy in the car while visiting relatives, according to police spokesman Rubens Dalaison.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the unconscious boy, but he was declared dead on arrival at Kaiser Permanente Santa Teresa Medical Center.
Investigators will not rush to arrest the father, and may not recommend charges at all, Dalaison said.
“It’s never black and white,” he said. “It’s always gray”
