Cable Installation
Re “L.A. Council OKs Cable Competition,” July 25: In planning for a new fiber-optic system for L.A., I hope the City Council has the wisdom to minimize the detrimental impact of street demolition to traffic congestion. For instance, it would be a pity--actually, a tremendous annoyance to many--if a street torn up for needed maintenance one year is again demolished in the following year or two for the sole purpose of installing cable. Even though the cable companies may foot the bill in dollars, citizens pay the price in traffic jams and aggravation. Perhaps, with planning, we could coordinate cable installation with routine maintenance.
