Robinson Leads Liberty to Victory in Houston

Crystal Robinson’s three-pointer with 19 seconds left and Vickie Johnson’s two free throws with four seconds remaining gave the New York Liberty a 64-61 victory over the Houston Comets Saturday in front of 14,566 at Houston.

Robinson led the Liberty with 15 points, and Tari Phillips and Sue Wicks each added 14.

The Liberty erased an eight-point second-half deficit and took a 59-55 lead with 2:53 to play on a basket by Phillips. Phillips scored 10 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Janeth Arcain led the Comets with 19 points and Tina Thompson had 14 points.

Miami 69, Indiana 63--Sheri Sam scored 17 points as the Sol (15-10) withstood a second-half rally and beat the Fever (8-17) in front of 10,871 at Indianapolis. Alicia Thompson’s fourth three-pointer of the second half cut Miami’s lead to 65-63, but the Sol won a jump ball and made four free throws to seal the victory, its ninth in 10 games.

Cleveland 57, Detroit 50--Merlakia Jones scored 12 points to lead the Rockers before 7,775 at Auburn Hills, Mich. Wendy Palmer led the Shock with 14 points.

Utah 68, Minnesota 60--Margo Dydek scored six of her eight points in overtime and Marie Ferdinand scored 17 points for the Starzz in front of 7,808 at Salt Lake City. Katie Smith, the WNBA’s leading scorer, had 30 points for the Lynx.
