From Times Staff Reports

An Amtrak train derailed on a section of rural track that had been undermined by heavy rain, and hospitals said they treated 10 people for minor injuries.

The Dallas-bound Texas Eagle left Chicago late Saturday with 174 passengers and 12 crew, Amtrak said. The train had two engines and 19 cars; one locomotive and three cars derailed near Sabula.

Four to 6 inches of rain had washed out much of the ground under the rails, said a spokesman for Union Pacific, which owns the track. The washed-out section was 50 feet long and 4 feet deep.
