The Answer, My Friends, Is Blowing a Lot of Shots

Share

I share Diane Pucin’s comments regarding “The Answer.” Allen Iverson is a role model for many kids. He represents every kid who has been told they’re too short, thin or Jewish to play a sport. Not only do I see No. 3 playing with his kids on the sideline but I also hear him praising and thanking God and his mom for their support. The MVP has lifted the 76ers to their current playoff status and has shown kids that they have the power to change an adverse situation.

My 10-year-old son has just asked me for an Iverson jersey. I said yes.

Let’s examine what your [Iverson] article really says:

A gay-hating street punk, who spent time in jail for hitting a man with a chair in a racist brawl, whose stepfather spent time in jail, who has been caught driving around with guns and drugs, who refuses to marry the mother of his children, and who still maintains his “loyalty” to the street gang he grew up in, should be embraced by us all, now that he is playing good basketball.

Allen Iverson represents everything that is sick in American sports today. And you journalists are sending a dangerous message to kids: Hurt who you want, do what you want. Just put the ball through the hoop, and all is forgiven.

If Allen Iverson is the “answer” the question must be: Who can build a three-story brick house in an hour or less?
