Better Off With Kreskin Than Karros?

“I’m not into predicting the future,” Eric Karros said. When asked if he thought he’d be out longer than two weeks, Karros said, “I’m not surprised by anything around here anymore.”

That’s good to hear, Eric. It shouldn’t surprise you then that you have outstayed your welcome in L.A.

Here’s my proposal: Trade Karros for a leadoff hitter and make Darren Dreifort a first baseman-pitcher.

It’s nice that the Supremes have given Casey Martin permission to ride around in a golf cart on the tour, but their decision falls short of addressing the real problem. Martin’s condition is irreversible, and his leg will continue to deteriorate unless there’s a major medical breakthrough. It would seem that the only likely source of such a breakthrough is Dr. Gary Sheffield.

After telling Bob Daly et al how to run a major organization, Sheff was astute enough to contradict Dr. Frank Jobe’s diagnosis of Sheffield’s most recent ailment. Jobe was previously considered to be one of the preeminent practitioners of sports medicine in the world, but Sheffield certainly put him in his place.

Now that he has taken care of those minor organizational and medical problems, Dr. Sheffield will have Martin toting his own bag in no time. And if he can get past the distraction of constantly having to tell the so-called “experts” how full of it they are, Sheffield may even have Lou Gehrig playing first base for the Dodgers the next time Karros goes on the DL. There’s no end to the man’s talents!
