Jeep Does So-So on a Hill but Handles Great on the Roof

An 18-year-old lost control of his Jeep in Laguna Beach early Saturday morning, striking a curb and a low cement wall, which catapulted the vehicle onto the metal roof of a newly built home, police said.

Nicholas Legris of Mission Viejo and his passenger, Alyssa Lanz, 18, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center and released, police said.

The two were reportedly driving on Park Avenue about 1 a.m. when Legris lost control of his vehicle on a hill in the darkness. The home’s roof is nearly level with the street’s surface.

The Jeep remained on the roof all night. Police dispatched officers to the 1900 block Saturday morning to direct traffic, which had slowed to a crawl as rubbernecking drivers sought to catch a glimpse of the yellow Jeep.

The homeowners, who were home at the time of the accident, wouldn’t comment. Police Sgt. Darin Lenyi said the occupants, who had only been there for about a month, called their contractor and “told him what a great job he did on the roof.”

The driver was not arrested.
