2 Killed, 1 Injured in Head-On Collision
Two people were killed and another was injured as a result of a two-car collision on El Toro Road late Saturday.
The crash occurred about 11:10 p.m. Saturday when a car driven by Derek Komorous, 26, of Aliso Viejo tried to pass a car while heading south on El Toro Road, a quarter-mile from Laguna Canyon Road, police said. Komorous’ car hit an oncoming vehicle driven by Matthew Kyle Schultz, 35, of Carlsbad. Schultz was killed, police said, and a passenger in his car, Jennifer Caprile Schultz, 37, of Carlsbad, was injured. Komorous and Jennifer Schultz were both taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where Komorous died Sunday afternoon. Jennifer Schultz was in stable condition, the hospital said.
