* Art Show--”Illustration West 39,” the largest juried illustration competition west of New York, will open Friday at the art galleries at Cal State Northridge. Sponsored by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, the competition features entries from national and international artists in such categories as advertising, entertainment, editorial, book and others. * Gospel Music--Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia will host a “Gospel Celebration” on Saturday. Donnie McClurkin will perform at 6 and 8 p.m.; Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers will perform at 1 and 3 p.m. All performances will be held at Golden Bear Theater. * Juneteenth--The Autry Museum of Western Heritage will host a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, featuring live music, film screenings, readings and a genealogy workshop. Howard Marshall Jr., Allen Lee and Mike Mann & the Nightriders are among the performers scheduled to appear. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when U.S. Gen.eral Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston Bay and liberated the slaves in Texas. This was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The museum is at 4700 Western Heritage Way, Griffith Park. $3 to -$7.50.
