LAX Near-Misses

Share

Re “L.A. Runways Are Worst in Near Crashes,” June 20: If there were fewer flights at LAX there would be fewer near-misses. This is the safety element of the multifaceted fight to keep LAX from expanding. Many times in meetings with the Federal Aviation Administration my colleagues and I have asked, “How many planes can you bring in here safely?” They have consistently refused to answer.

The FAA holds the key to the LAX expansion question. It is not just an issue of traffic on the ground but of traffic in the air. A regional solution that spreads the wealth would help make LAX and the skies over the entire region safer.
