Gas Prices at Lowest Level Since April 30

The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in the state dipped to $1.901 a gallon in the week ended Monday from $1.929 the previous week, the U.S. Energy Department reported.

It was the second straight weekly decline in the fuel’s price, and its lowest level since the week ended April 30, when gasoline averaged $1.867 a gallon. With the exception of a one-week jump this month, gasoline prices have been gradually declining since peaking at $1.954 a gallon in mid-May, as robust production at refineries and additional imports have swelled supplies.

Meanwhile, the average national price for self-serve regular also fell in the latest week, to $1.538 a gallon from $1.601, the department’s Energy Information Administration said. Prices are higher in California because of added costs and taxes related to the state’s strict environmental laws.
