* Yahoo Inc. said it will pay $12 million, or 92 cents a share, for Launch Media Inc., a Santa Monica-based online music company. Launch Media shares jumped 31 cents to 89 cents on Nasdaq. Yahoo said Launch’s top management will be retained, but no decisions have been made yet about the rest of the company’s 175-person staff.

* Nokia Corp. plans to cut as many as 1,000 jobs worldwide to improve its competitiveness. The cuts represent 4.3% of its Nokia Networks unit’s work force.
