Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard Parks and top brass from San Fernando Valley police stations will hold a town hall meeting Thursday for community members to discuss crime and other issues specific to their neighborhoods.

“This is an opportunity for people to speak to the general manager of the Police Department and voice their concerns. That’s what you want, a dialogue,” said Sgt. Ralph Morales of the department’s Community Relations section. “We’re going to be there to deal with quality-of-life issues that are important to us, too.”

Every year, the police chief holds a town hall meeting in each of the city’s four police bureaus. At Thursday’s meeting, representatives from the Van Nuys, Foothill, North Hollywood, West Valley and Devonshire areas, in addition to Valley Traffic, will be present to answer questions.

The meeting will include a 15-minute presentation of a computer system that allows police to use statistics to help identify crime trends.

The system, known as FASTRAC--for Focus Accountability Strategy Teamwork Response and Coordination--uses recent data to discover crime patterns and develop strategies to combat them.

Thursday’s town hall meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in Taft Hall at Taft High School, 5461 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills.
