A Newport Beach woman was killed Tuesday when the car she was driving rolled over, trapping her underneath, police said.

The single-vehicle accident happened about 7:10 p.m. on the Foothill Transportation Corridor near Irvine, investigators said. Two young boys the driver was baby-sitting at the time were not injured, police said.

Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, said the woman was northbound on the toll road at 65 mph to 70 mph when she lost control of the white Range Rover near the juncture with the Eastern Transportation Corridor.

The vehicle overturned, partially ejecting the woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, and pinning her underneath.

Identification of the 45-year-old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was being withheld pending notification of relatives, Reeves said. Late Tuesday the two children were expected to be turned over to relatives.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, Reeves said.
