Saarloos’ Streak Ends, but Titans Complete Sweep

Cal State Fullerton completed a three-game sweep of Houston with a 9-2 victory Sunday in a nonconference baseball game at Houston.

Pitcher Kirk Saarloos (4-2) had his 28-inning scoreless streak snapped when Houston scored in the bottom of the first, but he pitched a seven-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk. He notched double figures in strikeouts for the third time this season and passed Ted Silva for sixth on Fullerton’s career list with 260.

The Titans are 11-8. Houston (6-16) lost its third straight game.

The game, which included a 43-minute rain delay, was called after eight innings to accommodate the Titans’ travel plans.

In another nonconference game:

Long Beach State 11, Wichita State 8--Bobby Crosby homered and had two RBIs as the 49ers (9-7) built a 9-1 lead through six innings. Crosby, Jeremy Reed and Chris Wright had two hits each for Long Beach State.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Georgia Tech 5, UC Irvine 2--The Yellow Jackets swept the doubles matches and won four of six singles matches.

The Anteaters got singles victories from Oliver Schweizer, who defeated Romain Coiraults at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2; and Greg Bjorkman, who defeated Sergio Aguirre, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.
