Mustangs Sweep Doubleheader

Trabuco Hills used some late-inning heroics to record a doubleheader sweep of visiting Bellflower St. John Bosco Monday at Windrow Field in Irvine.

In the first game, the Mustangs scored eight runs in two innings to defeat St. John Bosco, 11-5. In the second game, Trabuco Hills scored eight runs in its final two at-bats to win, 9-4.

Trabuco Hills trailed, 5-3, in the first game before rallying with five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

After leading, 1-0 in the second game, Trabuco Hills fell behind when St. John Bosco scored four fourth-inning runs. The Mustangs answered with four runs in their half of the fourth, then added one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Reliever Ryan Clinkenbeard (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings in the first game to pick up the victory, and Trabuco Hills had 18 hits. Sean Boatright doubled twice and knocked in three runs and James Webster and Mike Thompson had three hits and two RBIs each.

Matt Burson (2-0) got the victory in the second game and helped himself with three hits and two RBIs.

Trabuco Hills is 6-1. St. John Bosco is 3-4.

In other nonleague games:

Bolsa Grande 5, Magnolia 4--Steve Ashmore singled in Ernesto Rodriguez, who reached when hit by a pitch, in the bottom of the seventh for host Bolsa Grande (3-2). Alex Guadarrama scored the tying run earlier in the seventh on a wild pitch.

Brethren Christian 17, Oxford Academy 8 (6 innings, darkness)--Andy Delgado had a home run, double and five RBIs for visiting Brethren Christian (1-1).

Freshman Denny Warden faced five batters and struck out four to record the save in his first high school pitching appearance. Warden added three hits and an RBI for the Warriors.

Estancia 16, Los Amigos 0 (5, mercy)--Pitcher Brent Davis (2-0) gave up one hit through four innings and also had two hits, and J.B. Goff had two hits and three RBIs for the host Eagles (3-2). Los Amigos is 1-3-1.

Orange 2-8, Orange Lutheran 1-5--The Panthers went eight innings in the second game to get the doubleheader sweep.

With Orange down by one and two outs in the seventh of the second game, Anthony Alvarado singled home the tying run. Tucker Boyd doubled home two runs in the eighth and Orange added another run on John Medina’s RBI double. Brian Schwenneker (2-0) earned the victory.

In the first game, the Panthers scored runs in the first and second innings. Alvarado led off the first with a single, stole second and scored on Jeff Joiner’s single. Cesar Lopez knocked in Ruben Cruz with the go-ahead run in the second. Alvarado (1-1) earned the victory and Joiner pitched four shutout innings for his first save.

Orange is 5-1. Orange Lutheran is 2-4.

Pacifica 6, Norwalk 0--Alfonso Auelua hit a two-run homer in the fifth and pitchers Neil Laukat and Drew Mulkern combined on a two-hitter for Pacifica (1-4).

Servite 6, Lakewood Mayfair 5--Tyler Hogan’s two-out, bases-loaded triple highlighted a five-run first inning for the Friars (3-3). Steve Kahn (1-1) struck out nine in four innings and Raul Davis picked up his first save. Mayfair is 3-3.
