Woman Pleads No Contest to Leaving 5-Year-Old Son in Trunk

SAN JOSE — The woman arrested last year for keeping her 5-year-old son in her car trunk while she worked pleaded no contest to felony child endangerment charges Tuesday.
Instead of putting her boy in day care, Rosemarie Barcelona Radovan often kept him in her car, Deputy Dist. Atty. Daniel Nishigaya said. Her November arrest highlighted how some working-class parents struggle to pay for basic needs in high-cost areas such as Silicon Valley.
Radovan, 30, could be sentenced to more than seven years in prison, or to probation and placement in a child abuse counseling program when Judge Robert Ambrose decides her sentence May 18. She has been free on bail since her arrest.
She was charged after a co-worker told police about “a kid’s moaning” coming from the back of Radovan’s car when they were headed to pick up lunch.
