San Jose Arena Gets a New Name

Share

Do you know the way to San Jose Arena?

Not anymore.

There was a new arena unveiled Tuesday night before the game against the Sharks . . . actually it was a old arena with a new name. Introducing the Compaq Center at San Jose.

For the last 10 years, the building has been the San Jose Arena, or commonly, the Shark Tank. It’s still the Shark Tank, but after Compaq shelled out $3.13 million a year in a 15-year deal, there’s now a big name change.

A giant Compaq Center sign has been installed over the main entrance and a second sign over another entrance is in the works, along with two 350-foot-long neon beacons that will be positioned on the roof.

The Kings’ average attendance at Staples Center is 15,961--down slightly from last year’s average attendance of 16,392 after 38 dates. . . . Maybe someone should tell him that he’s playing a home game: Glen Murray has 16 goals--13 at Staples.
