Padres Obtain Kotsay

The San Diego Padres on Wednesday traded right-hander Matt Clement, outfielder Eric Owens and minor league right-hander Omar Ortiz to the Florida Marlins for outfielder Mark Kotsay and minor league outfielder Cesar Crespo.

Clement, 26, was 13-17 with a 5.14 earned-run average in 34 starts last year.

Owens, 30, was the Padres’ most productive outfielder last season, batting .293 with six homers, 51 runs batted in and 29 stolen bases.

Kotsay, 25, a former first-round draft pick from Cal State Fullerton, established career highs in batting (.298), doubles (31), homers (12) and stolen bases (19). He had 57 RBIs.
