Driver Killed; Man in Truck Sought
Long Beach police were looking for a man in a white pickup truck who fatally shot a 48-year-old Bellflower man who was driving near the Gardena Freeway Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The gunman fired shots into Arturo Velasquez’s black pickup truck and sped off, said Officer Jana Blair of the Long Beach Police Department. It was not known late Thursday if the two men knew each other, she said.
The shooting occurred on Paramount Boulevard near the entrance of the Gardena Freeway about 3:50 p.m., Blair said.
Seconds after Velasquez was shot, his truck veered into two parked cars and overturned, Blair said. No one else was injured, Blair said.
