Students, teachers and other supporters at North Hollywood High School paid tribute Tuesday to the national champions of this year’s National Science Bowl.
A welcome-back party in the school quad greeted North Hollywood High’s winning team members--Daniel Bersohn, Jeanne Shen, Jeff Zira, Julia Hu and David Lee, all students in the school’s highly gifted magnet program--and their coach, Len Soloff.
“We have the band going and all the students are very excited,” Assistant Principal Carlos Martinez said before the festivities. “It’s just great.”
North Hollywood captured the title Monday in Chase, Md., in the 11th annual math and science quiz sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. They beat 61 other teams, including runner-up Troy High of Fullerton, and third-place Mission San Jose High of Fremont.
