Care Facility Is Sued Over Pregnancy
The family of a mentally disabled woman who became pregnant and gave birth last month at a Santa Ana board-and-care home filed a civil suit Wednesday against the facility.
The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages against Westview Services Inc. It was filed by a relative who describes himself as the victim’s legal guardian.
The suit comes a day after Santa Ana police arrested Robert Rogelio Rios, 45, in connection with the rape of the 30-year-old woman, who was in his care.
The home has since been closed, and authorities are in the process of revoking its license.
Police became aware of the situation on April 19, when Rios’ wife, who also worked as a live-in caregiver at the facility, brought the mentally disabled woman to Fountain Valley Community Hospital along with a plastic bag containing a dead baby boy.
