UCLA Beats Fullerton in Baseball

Cal State Fullerton’s 10-game winning streak ended Wednesday with a 9-3 loss to host UCLA in a nonconference baseball game.

The Titans (28-12), ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 2 by Baseball America, were limited to five hits by four Bruin pitchers. Fullerton’s Shane Costa and Brett Kay had two each.

UCLA (27-23) scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-1 lead. Ben Francisco had two hits and drove in three runs and John Campanella had a home run for UCLA.

The Titans, who had won 24 of 25 going into the game, begin a three-game series Friday against UC Santa Barbara, which trails Fullerton by two games in the Big West Conference.

TENNIS

The Chapman women’s tennis team will play Trinity University Saturday in the NCAA Division III West regional in San Antonio.

The Panthers (14-4) are ranked 15th nationally in Division III. Trinity (15-4) is ranked third in the nation and seeded No. 1 in the West region.

WATER POLO

Several Orange County players are on rosters of the UCLA, Loyola Marymount, Stanford and Brown teams that will compete in the NCAA women’s water polo championships Saturday and Sunday at Stanford.

UCLA players from the county are Robin Beauregard and Jenny Lamb of Marina, Natalie Golda of Rosary, Kristin Guerin of Los Alamitos, Ashley Stachowski of Capistrano Valley and Kristyn Pulver of Villa Park.

Loyola Marymount’s roster includes Carolyn Guidi and Teresa Guidi of Esperanza, Jaime Kroeze and Rebecca Patterson of Santa Margarita, Julia Wald of Fullerton and Nicole Norris of Mater Dei.

Jackie Frank of Los Alamitos and Nicole Huszcz of Irvine play for Stanford, and Dominique Rash of Santa Margarita plays for Brown.

Stanford meets Brown and UCLA plays Loyola Marymount in the semifinals Saturday.
