Death Urged for Killer of 2 College Students
A jury Friday recommended the death penalty for Rex A. Krebs, 35, for murdering two college students in a case that riveted San Luis Obispo.
Krebs, a paroled rapist, received two death sentences in the slayings of Rachel Newhouse, 20, a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student from Irvine, and Aundria Crawford, 20, a student at Cuesta College.
Newhouse was abducted while walking across a downtown railroad bridge on the night of Nov. 12, 1998. Crawford was abducted after Krebs broke into her San Luis Obispo duplex March 11, 1999.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Krebs raped the women and kept them alive at his home in rural San Luis Obispo before he strangled them. Their remains were found nearby in April 1999.
