One Thing About T.J.: He Has to Be Himself

Share

Dear Mr. Simers,

Since you have joined the L.A. Times, I have tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to enjoy reading your column. It’s not just that you’re mean and nasty without provocation or that you rarely have a nice thing to say (without calling attention to it), but after attempting to read your column on Tuesday [May 8], I now realize just why I despise your “style” of writing so much. You made no less than 48(!) references to yourself in this column! Isn’t there a code of journalism to not make yourself be part of the stories you write about?

Please, do us all a favor and go sell cars or something. Anything other than what it is that you (think you) do.

If your words helped in getting a general manager of a baseball club fired, then this letter is the least I can do.

Would Sports Editor Bill Dwyre tolerate a Times sportswriter to make snide comments about Notre Dame as Simers does about USC?
