Mariachi music filled Maggie and Gilbert Moret’s gardens in San Marino for the annual Tardeada to support Hispanics for L.A. Opera. For the last six years Gilbert Moret, an attorney and opera aficionado who loves to sing, has hosted the afternoon party, which features Mexican food and performances by Mexican artists, including members of L.A. Opera and, of course, Moret himself, who capped the evening by crooning “Fly Me to the Moon” in honor of L.A. Opera devotee Dennis Tito’s safe return to Earth that night.

Dolores Richardson, chairwoman of Hispanics for L.A. Opera, presented Moret, for his longtime support of the opera, with a poster from the recent production of Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” signed by the entire cast.

Other Cinco de Mayo fiestas included the Los Amigos Council of Para Los Ninos’ fifth annual benefit, held at the Cava tapas bar in West Hollywood. Tina and Rick Caruso--he’s the developer of the new Farmers Market and Playa Vista--and Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis were honored with Amigo awards for their service to the Los Angeles community.
