2,400-Gallon Sewage Spill Fouls Harbor
Portofino Cove and Sunset Aquatic Marina in Huntington Harbour remained off-limits to swimmers and divers Sunday because of a 2,400-gallon sewage spill, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. It was the 22nd ocean-water closure caused by a sewage spill in the county this year.
A blocked pipe at the Sheraton Anaheim hotel sent sewage into a channel that flowed into the harbor Saturday morning, said Monica Mazur, spokeswoman for the agency. The spill was reported to county health officials shortly before 10 a.m.
Mazur said swimming is uncommon in the area but the closure was necessary to protect underwater divers who clean boats.
