Kristen Caverly
San Clemente, Swimming
Caverly just missed two national records, but set Division I records in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.86) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.67). She topped the individual
medley record set in 1999 by Kaitlin
Sandeno (2:00.19) to win her third consecutive title. She beat
Amanda Beard’s 1996 breaststroke record of 1:01.79 and also anchored the record-setting 200 freestyle relay, which won in 1:36.71.

Edison, Diving
Broke Erica Sorgi’s Division I record of 568.10 points, scoring 621.65 points to win her second consecutive section title.
* Amber Steen
Newport Harbor, Track
Set a section Division II record in the 3,200 meters (10:27.20) and posted the second-fastest time in county history.
Michael Cavic
Tustin, Swimming
Cavic set two Division III records and won three titles at the Southern Section finals. He set the 50-yard freestyle mark on the lead leg of the winning
200 freestyle relay, finishing in 20.21 to best the division record of 20.71 set by Downey’s Brian Jacobsen in 1991. In the 100 butterfly, Cavic won in 48.26, topping the mark of 49.33 set by Santa Maria Righetti’s Randy Hartley in 1992. Cavic also won the 100 backstroke in 49.85.
* Louie Gagnet
University, Diving
Set the Division II record by scoring 640.95 points, breaking the mark of 601.80 set last year by Laguna Hills’ Michael Hilde.
* Justin Tellam
San Clemente, Baseball
Hit a three-run homer to help the Tritons beat Mission Viejo and win a share of the South Coast League championship.
