Clippers’ Miles to Earn Spot on All-Rookie Team

For the second consecutive year, the Clippers will have a player on the NBA’s all-rookie team when the selections are announced today.

Darius Miles, the league’s youngest player at 19, will follow teammate Lamar Odom, a first-team all-rookie pick last season.

New Jersey’s Kenyon Martin, Golden State’s Marc Jackson, Toronto’s Morris Peterson and Orlando’s rookie-of-the-year Mike Miller are the other rookies expected to be honored.

Miles will become the first player drafted directly out of high school to be an all-rookie selection. He led rookies in rebounds (5.9) and field-goal percentage (.505), and was second in blocks (1.54) and third in scoring (9.4). Miles, who finished with a team-high 129 dunks, is the third Clipper to earn first-team all-rookie honors since the franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1984.

In other news, the Clippers and Lakers are expected to be fined $25,000 each by the league because they were among several teams to take part in scouting an illegal workout earlier this month in Phoenix. . . . On Sunday, the Clippers will take part in the NBA draft lottery for the seventh time in the last eight years. The Clippers have a 2.9% chance of ending up with the No. 1 pick.
