UCI Advances to NCAA Golf Finals

The UC Irvine men’s golf team finished third in the NCAA West Regional Saturday in Corvallis, Ore., advancing to the championships May 30 at Duke University in Durham, N.C.

The Anteaters shot six-over-par 294 to finish the 54-hole event at seven-over 871. Arizona State won with an 852 and Arizona finished second at 867. The top 10 teams advanced to the championships.

Irvine’s Eric Wang shot two-over 74 to finish 10th at one-under 215, Mike Lavery shot 75 and finished 15th at two-over 218 and Jeff Coburn also shot a 75 and placed 19th at three-over 219.

In the NCAA men’s tennis tournament:

Stanford 4, Pepperdine 1--Alex Kim, Stanford’s No. 1 player, retired because of leg cramps during a rain delay, but the Cardinal (24-1) still advanced to the quarterfinals at Athens, Ga.

Pepperdine ended the season with a 19-8 record.

USC (15-9) also lost in the round of 16, in a 4-2 decision to Texas Christian (23-3). UCLA’s match against Washington was postponed until today because of rain.
