House Fire Causes $250,000 in Damage
A fire that began in a guest bedroom of a home Tuesday morning caused $250,000 in damage before it was doused, according to a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department.
The blaze was spotted shortly before 11 a.m. in a single-story home in the 1200 block of Calle Pimiento, said county fire spokesman Joe Luna.
Homeowner George Whitney and his wife were not home when the fire broke out, Luna said. They told officials they would stay temporarily with friends or relatives. The couple have lived in the house for about 30 years.
An official cause had not been determined late Tuesday, but Luna said the fire was not considered suspicious and investigators believe an electrical malfunction in the guest room may be to blame.
