Prince Charles Gets Silver Medal for His Green Thumb

LONDON — Prince Charles’ bid for glory at one of the world’s most famous flower shows ended Tuesday with the Islamic-style show garden he designed winning a silver medal.
The heir to the British throne, whose garden was based on the design of two Turkish rugs at his country home, missed out on the top prize at the Chelsea Flower Show, a mecca for gardening fans that attracts up to 170,000 visitors a year.
The top prize was shared by a Japanese garden and a minimalist garden sponsored by a champagne producer.
The prince, keenly interested in gardening and environmental issues, imported a fountain and tiles from Spain for his display.
